My family on both sides come from the Gurley/Killingsworth Cove/Paint Rock valley area going back to the 1830s. For further information contact Dwayne Renfroe (Replace NO@Spam by @ in his email address)
My great-great grandfather, Isaac Shelby "Dandy" Renfroe was captured as a POW at Gurley March 2, 1865 (apparently he deserted from the siege of Petersburg where he was in the 12th AL, enlisted with the local fighters, 25th AL, and had a horse shot out from under him within a week or two of coming home).
This file is from his Civil War Service Record showing him taking the oath of allegiance at the end of the war as well as him arriving as a POW to Camp Chase, OH.

Notice in the foreground, it's written on the back of a chair that MCHS lost to North Jackson in 1933.
