Founders' Club

This honorary club was formed to recognize outstanding contributions toward the promotion and preservation of the history of Gurley, Alabama.  It also recognizes outstanding contributions in the support and development of the Gurley website and exceptional general civic contributions toward making Gurley a better place to live. This club is a non operating club and exists solely for the purpose of honoring any selected citizen of Gurley Alabama who distinguishes themselves in the support of the Gurley  Website and the preservation of Gurley's history.

William A. Walker III
Direct descendant of Capt. Frank B. Gurley, President, and Capt. Elijah F. Walker Secretary of the Gurleys & Paint Rock Valley Railway Company.

Dominique G. Schneider (charter member)
Dominique G. Schneider, Webmaster of the Gurley Community & Town History website, and his wife Irene for their great support and help in posting From Our Past articles into the Gurley website. The Gurley website is one of the best anywhere and the citizens of Gurley can be very proud of the great image this website portrays to a worldwide audience.

Gurley Public Library (charter member)
The Gurley Library has been very active in the Gurley Historical Society and heavily involved in general civic contributions toward making Gurley a better place to live. Thanks to the extra efforts of Betty Davis, Margaret Connelly, and many others library volunteers..

Berniece Lorene Lawler (1913-2000)
Berniece Lawler had a lifelong interest in the history of Gurley. She wrote several historical documents and compiled and saved a great deal of material pertaining to Gurley. She was very active with the Gurley Historical Society and took a very strong role in the preservation of Gurley's history.

James C Pearson & Jane F. Pearson
James C. Pearson and Jane F. Pearson have been very active in the Gurley Historical Society and were heavily involved in the certification of Gurley as a Historic District through the Alabama Historical Commission and the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage. They were also instrumental in the support of the Gurley website and helped supply historical data to the new website when it was activated.

Elizabeth (Betty) M. Davis
Elizabeth (Betty) M. Davis has been president and is very active in the Gurley Historical Association for the past fourteen years. She is the organizer of the volunteer librarian group and a charter member of the friends of the Gurley public library, past and current president of the Gurley Lioness club. She is also very involved in community events, the fun run, annual luminary display, Gurley Food pantry, and an active member of the Gurley United Methodist church.

Anthony & Martha Stone
Their love of their home town of Gurley and their involvement in many of the town’s programs, activities, committees, and civic affaires (Gurley Historical Association, Active Volunteer Firefighter, Cumberland Presbyterian Church Music Director, Sponsor of the annual firework, Library Fund Raising, Gurley County Fair Organizer, CP Church Elder, member of the Lions Club, Sunday School Teacher, PTA Officer, Gurley Study Club) makes Anthony and Martha Stone very deserving recipients of this honorary award.

T. David Freeman
T. David Freeman is duly recognized for the many outstanding accomplishments contributed to the town of Gurley. Councilman since 1988, Mayor 1989 to 1991, member of the Gurley historical society, former vice president of the Gurley library, participation in the Gurley planning commission, involved in Gurley's civic affairs and programs. For decades T. David Freeman has been a leader in permanent town's improvements and so is very commendable. T. David Freeman is a very deserving recipient for this honorary award.

Gurley Mayor Stan Simpson
Stan Simpson is duly recognized for the many outstanding accomplishments he contributes to the town of Gurley. During his previous and current terms as mayor Stan worked tremendously to improve streets, fix an aging water and sewer system and prepare for growth that is coming.

Brian Kamplaine
Brian Kamplaine has displayed exceptional leadership and foresight throughout his tenure as president of the Gurley Historical Society and is well deserving of this recognition for his outstanding service and contributions for the betterment of the community and town of Gurley.

Gurley Mayor Robert Sentell
Mayor Robert Sentell has displayed exceptional leadership and foresight throughout his tenure in office and is well deserving of this recognition for his outstanding service and contributions for the betterment of the community and town of Gurley.

Robbie Reasons
Robbie Reasons has displayed exceptional devotion and hard work in her position of treasurer and former secretary of the Gurley Historical Association. She is well deserving of this recognition in preserving the history of Gurley and her contributions for the betterment of the community and town of Gurley.

Angela Allison
Angela Allison has displayed exceptional devotion and hard work in her position of secretary of the Gurley Historical Association. She is well deserving of this recognition in preserving the history of Gurley and her contributions for the betterment of the community and town of Gurley.
