If I am not available and you need technical support, you may find the answer to your
question on my Technical
support web site or, for more advanced subjects, by reading the threads I participated
in as a member of technical professional web community Tek-Tips
and platform sdk (member name: dgschnei) .
Making certain that people (and more particularly children) develop constructive
values, ethical morals and trustworthy use of technology is the responsibility of all
adults and professionals. As professionals and decent citizens, what we can do is share
what we know with the people around us and coach to use computers (and other technology) the right way. Most
people use computers for games and most people know how to point-and-click. That is great,
but computers have a lot more to offer...
Do not hesitate to contact Dominique

IV Sharing Pictures or Photographs
Photos and Image Quality
Generally speaking it is advised to use:
- Screen Resolution Size: 460 x 300 pixels X 16 Million colors
Screen Resolution is perfect for email but not advised for quality
processing.
They are approximately the same size as the actual photos you have developed.
As an average a pictures with screen Resolution 460 x 300 pixels takes about 30 KB
- High Resolution Maximum Size: 1536 x 1024 pixels X 16 Million colors
They are ideal for making high-quality prints, advanced graphics projects,
and professional printing on photographic printers.
As an average a pictures with high resolution 1536 x 1024 takes about 400 KB
- For an average of quality and size the advised parameters are:
800 x 600 pixels
24 Bits per pixel
16 Million colors
Image Optimization (JPEGs reproduce photographs very well)
The idea behind making images load faster is to make the files' sizes smaller. This can be
accomplished in two ways: you can either make the dimensions of the image smaller, or
decrease the amount of coding that is required to display the image (called compression).
The easiest way to reduce an image's file size is to reduce the image's physical
dimensions.
An image that is a square 80 pixels by 80 pixels containes 6400 individual pixels (80x80).
Reducing the image size by one half to 40 pixels by 40 pixels requires 1600 pixels
(40x40).
So reducing the image size in half reduces the file size to one fourth of the original.
Image compression decreases the necessary coding. In a JPEG image the compression is
accomplished using software algorithms to remove redundant information from the file.
Whenever a file is compressed it will lose some image quality. You have to reach a balance
between a small file size and acceptable image quality. Find the least acceptable level of
image quality. Most images can handle some compression with very little quality loss, and
all images can stand more image quality loss and still be acceptable. Your job is to
decide how much quality loss you can accept. Remember: the lower the quality, the smaller
the file size!
Display Properties and Pictures
Elaborate scanned photographs may need a higher screen resolution.
Your monitor and display adapter determine whether you can change your screen resolution.
In the Color Palette list, click the number of colors that you want your monitor to
display.

The difference between an unsuccessful person and others is not a lack of
strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.
